OUR CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
At St. Luke UMC, we love children! Our goal is to create an environment where children and families can engage in programs and activities that will assist them in forming a firm faith foundation, while helping them grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
We recognize that each stage of a child’s development is different, and parenting offers different joys and challenges at each stage. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for families and children at all ages and stages to engage in the life of the church.
Our team of volunteers come together on a regular basis to set the goals and plan the activities for Children’s Ministry at St. Luke. They work in partnership with the coordinator of Children’s and Family Ministry and have an active role in making decisions and planning events and activities for the program.
*All workers and volunteers in all of our programs follow the Safe Sanctuaries policies established by the United Methodist Church. Interested in volunteering? Click here!
On Sunday mornings, children may attend the worship service of their choice with their families. Younger children may prefer to stay in the nursery, but they are welcome in worship!
Children ages 2 through 8 who attend the 9:00 service may choose to participate in Children’s Church. They may sit with their families in the Davenport Christian Life Center to enjoy the music of the Praise Band and then after the children’s blessing, they are taken to another room where Children’s Church is held until the end of the service. The program includes songs, scripture, and teaches the children about all of the elements of the grown-up worship service to prepare them to worship with the church as a whole. Following the service, they may be picked up by their parents, or they
may stay for Sunday School.
We recognize that babies and toddlers are capable of learning at an amazing rate! So we have created a space that provides a warm, safe, and loving environment that will capture their attention, will allow them to learn and explore in a variety of ways, and will help them along in this beginning stage of their faith formation.
A nursery is offered during all worship services for babies and toddlers up through age 4, or until they enter Kindergarten. The nursery is available from 8:45 am through 12:00 noon.
The Nursery Wing is housed in Rooms 100, 102, and 104.
Sunday School begins at 9:45 am. Children are divided into small groups according to their age. During this time they are introduced to Bible stories, Christian principles, and faith practices through art, play, stories, and songs. Click here to learn more about our Sunday School classes and times!
Vacation Bible School
Bible School at St. Luke is over the top! We get excited about this event that reaches out to the community and welcomes many visitors each season. Children have the opportunity to learn Biblical truths in an active, creative, “kid size” way!
The children host a tea for the seniors in our congregation to let them know how much they are loved! They are learning to show God’s love to others through their actions.
Large numbers of children and families come together to hear the Easter story, have an egg hunt, do fun crafts and activities and a have a snack as children learn about the power of Jesus' love.
Pathfinders and Summit
Pathfinders (Kindergarten through 2nd Grade) and Summit (3rd through 5th Grade) begin at 5:00 pm in Room 116/118. After a combined introductory time, they divide into separate groups for their evening activities. They enjoy a time of food, fun, and hanging out. And when they are not looking, we throw in some learning, too! During their weekly sessions they participate in fun games and activities that allow them to further explore what they learned in our Sunday morning programs. They also participate in mission projects, special outings, and seasonal events.
CHILDREN'S MUSIC MINISTRY
The Cherub Choir is for our youngest music makers. This choir meets on Sunday afternoons from 4:30 until 5:15 pm in Room #114. The children perform during the church services multiple times during the year. They also host events for the families to participate in with the children on a regular basis.

Back to School Celebration
Children and families join together in worship as we prepare to support each other as we begin a new school year.
Trunk or Treat/Fall Festival
Families decorate their vehicles and provide a safe and family friendly atmosphere for the children of St. Luke and the entire community to celebrate Halloween and the Fall season.
The season of Advent is kicked off with this event as we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Christ child.
The children finish the year with a festive party to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
