St. Luke Preschool
"One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, ‘Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’ Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them." (Mark 10:13-16, NLT)
Purpose
To provide a Christian atmosphere for group living in which the whole child can grow.
Program
Through a program based upon the one-. two-. three-. and four-year old child's needs and abilities, we help the child become well adjusted, secure, happy, and able to enjoy their age to the fullest, as well as prepare them for their future school experience.
At all times, the program is carried out by teaching methods based upon proper understanding of child development. Because skillfully directed ‘work-play’ is the foundation of a good preschool, we use ‘work-play’ and recognize its values for the one-, two-, three- and four-year old child.
Play has purpose and meaning for the young child: it is the way young children learn. Play is the child's natural approach to understanding life situations and a means through which they gains new understanding and skills in problem solving. Play promotes motor skills, socialization, and the development of language.
Curriculum
While our curriculum objectives are consistent by age level, each teacher structures her classroom according to her and her students needs. Teachers structure classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate for each child's age group. Calendars or newsletters with current curriculum details are sent home regularly.
In addition, we offer activities such as weekly chapel services, music, speech therapy (as needed), class trips and playground time.
